My Sister Betty

When I was very young we had a pretty big family. I was the youngest of seven. I don't have a lot of memories of my sister Betty at home but here's one.

As I remember it we lived it a house that had an upstairs. I don't know why I remember this particular night, maybe some of my older brothers and sisters who had already left the house had come back to visit and sleep over. I really can't remember, but what I do remember is it was time to go to bed. This house had two bedrooms upstairs and I think there was a door between them. There were four of us and two beds but only three pillows.

I got a pillow and went to bed. Karo got a pillow and went to bed too, next to me I think, I don't remember. But I do remember I couldn't sleep because Lynda and Betty kept fighting because one of them got a pillow and the other one didn't. Probably, Lynda got the pillow while Betty was busy talking or joking or telling a story like she likes to do.

I can't stand it when people fight. I tried to ignore it and go to sleep but it was no good.

Finally, I got up and gave my pillow to Betty and told I didn't need it. She looked stunned. She said something about me being the baby and how I had to have a pillow, but she took it anyway. I remember she asked me how I could sleep without a pillow. I told her it was easy, I just laid there and pretended like I had one and I fell asleep.

I think she must feel guilty about that or something because whenever I stay at her house now she always makes sure I have a pillow. She's a good kid.
