Our
Wedding Story
Finish sewing the dresses at 2 am. Fall into bed and worry about ironing
them tomorrow. Janice says she will do it.
By morning we are all tired and
trying to get ready at once. I am wondering if Karen, my friend from work will
arrive with the wedding cake. She is making the cake and last I talked to
her was in her hospital bed two days before. She was having problems with
her heart tacking out and was hospitalized 4 days before during work.
Sheri says she will call her and make sure it's all okay. Tay is running
around in his tux the first one ready looking all handsome and all. So we
tell him he is distracting and tell him to leave. Then we all confuse each
other while we figure out who is going to ride with who to the chapel because I
need Tay's Aztek to fit my fluffy dress in and we have to pick up his mother.
Finally we decide that he takes my car and I take his. He leaves.
We are all getting ready, it's going smooth. Tay calls and reminds us not to
forget the marriage license. Whew, close call cuz we would have for sure.
I look at the clock and it's 2:20 pm. Supposed to be at the chapel at
2:30. Truly runs over the list....something old, something new, something
borrowed.....borrowed? I have nothing borrowed. I was supposed to
borrow a slip from a woman at work but it didn't fit so the nurse there
bought me one for a wedding gift. Trying not to panic. We
can't figure out anything that girls have that I can borrow and take down the
aisle with me. Finally I ask Janice if I can borrow a dollar and I put the
dollar in my shoe. Now it's 2:35. Now I know I'm already late for my
own wedding and trying to stay calm.
We finally all leave and head for the chapel. I can't remember what street
the Comstock in on and the chapel is on the 16th floor of the Comstock. We
just head for downtown and figure the building is tall and we will see it.
Well, it is tall but the buildings all around it are taller and we can't find
it. We are driving all around downtown laughing and searching.....now it's
2:45 pm....wonder if Tay thinks I am not gonna show...LOL Finally we
pull up to a light and we can't figure out how to roll the windows down in Tay's
car....I am waving frantically and banging on the windows to get the attention
of the driver next to me. Finally they notice us and Janice figures
out how to roll the window down. Luckily they are locals and know what
street the Comstock is on. We arrive, Janice lets me out and goes to find
parking for the car. I see Tay looking thru the glass doors and he is
smiling. Sheri runs up and says I have a surprise inside. I walk in,
I try to focus on a face...it looks like Jerry but it can't be....IT IS!
AND CHERYL!
Now we start bringing the wedding party up to the 16th floor a little at a time
to do a quick, who walks where with who thing. We need Janice but we will
have to explain to her later. We get to the top and Kayla (my
granddaughter and the flower girl) has to go potty. The restrooms are on
the 1st floor. Someone takes her down. Then they ask for the
marriage license and I say, Truly has it. No she doesn't. She
put it in my car to make sure I would have it. Janice is parking the car
and we don't know where. Truly goes down to find Janice and get the
license. The elevator comes back up and Janice handed someone the license
before she left....Jerry has it I think. But now Truly and Janice
and Kayla are all missing. The minister finally arrives, he is late too.
Everyone arrives and it is getting settled. We are standing outside the
chapel doors waiting for the music to start. I say, Janice....give me the
bouquet. She doesn't have it. No one has it. We forgot it!
The woman from the chapel gives me a big weird looking red flower. I
figure, it doesn't matter. We are all here and that is what counts.
Tay is inside wondering if I am upset. He will soon learn that this is
just the Boshear style and we just go with it.....LOL Sheri comes
out of the chapel with a white bouquet. It's not near as pretty as the one
I left at home but much better then the rose. She asks the woman why can't
I use that one. The woman says that they are for rent for $10. Sheri
has a fit $10 FOR A 5 SECOND WALK DOWN THE AISLE!!. Sheri runs in the
chapel, gets $10 from somewhere, comes out, shoves it in the woman's hand and
says "here is your $10, now let her get married!"....LOL
In the end I think she got her point across because the woman ended up taking
$70 off the quoted price for the whole thing...lol
Anyway, the music starts, by then then girls are excited and they practically
race down the aisle. Dad (Don) wants to go with them. I tell Dad no.
He is suppose to stay with me. I'm trying to yell in a whisper for the
girls to slow down but it's too late they are already down the aisle. Dad
and I get down there and wait and wait for the music to end....lol
Finally the minister starts to talk and then says "who gives this bride in
marriage". Dad says "I do". The minister not
realizing that he is my father looks at him and says you may be seated
"grandfather". I almost died. My Dad may be 92 years old
but he is not my grandfather. Dad looks confused and I just said "sit
by mom" and he did. I decided to let it go for the sake of not making
a scene for him. But I forgot....this was a Boshear wedding and it was
going to have a scene in it anyways...LOL
The ceremony starts. It's all wonderful but Tay just keeps staring at me
and isn't looking at the minister that is talking to him...LOL He told me
later that he was trying really hard to pay attention but that I looked so
beautiful all he wanted to do was kiss me and hold me. LOL Anyway,
the minister asks for the ring for the bride to be given to Tay. Savannah
has the pillow she made (she hand sewed the pillow all by herself and Janice
helped decorate it) Savannah goes to untie my ring. She is having trouble.
Janice tries to help. She can't get the ring off either. I start
laughing and so does the rest of the room. Truly tries to help. The
three of them are trying their best to get that ring off the pillow and it won't
come off. The Minister says in 30 yrs he has never had this
happen....ROFL. Finally they rip the ribbon holding the ring off the
pillow and then finally get the ribbon untied from the ring and hand it to
Tay....LOL I was dying laughing by then. Tay says his vows
clear and loud as if letting the whole know he was marrying me. He had
tears in his eyes. I never felt more loved in my life. Then
comes my vows. I'm gazing into Tay's eyes, repeating what the minister
says...then he says "for richer or poorer" and my brain stalls
out and I burst into laughter thinking about all the stuff people had done just
so we could afford a wedding at all. Tay laughs, everyone laughs.
Later he asks his mother if she noticed what I did when we got to that part and
she said that she almost said something herself...LOL
The ceremony goes well to the end. We kiss. We kiss some more...LOL
We do pics and all that stuff and kiss some more. We go to Sheri's for the
reception and Truly goes to the house and gets the real bouquet for me.
It's a beautiful reception. The whole thing that Sheri and Tom did was
wonderful. I was in awe of all they did. Mom made all kinds of dips
for the reception too that were so good people wanted to take them home.
The cake was there inspite of the fact that the person making the cake was just
hospitalized earlier in the week. But she told me that we couldn't let
Sheri and Tom buy a cake. That she was getting out of the hospital and
making that cake and her and her husband did manage to make the cake and it was
beautiful. Sheri set candles for joining us together as one life, they did
wonderful toasts to us and Sheri and dad and Tom said beautiful things for us.
Tom gave Tay's mother a glass of wine (which she normally doesn't drink) and she
was feeling her oats and teasing Tay to no end....LOL Sheri got us a
beautiful glass sculpture with our names and the wedding date on it.
Mom got us the most gorgeous toasting glasses. But when we went to cross
our arms we did it wrong and I couldn't tip my glass without hitting Tay's chest
and I poured the drink all down the front of my dress....LOL
We all visit and all goes well. I throw the bouquet to the only two single
girls in the place....Savannah and my granddaughter Kayla. Savannah lets
Kayla get the bouquet. She is sooooo excited. Janice thanks Savannah
for letting Kayla get it and Savannah says "I wasn't really being nice, I
just don't want to get married right now".....ROFL. Then we
throw the garter to the only single male in the place. My grandson Robert.
He catches it and Kayla is jumping up and down screaming "marry me...marry
me" to Robert while holding the bouquet she just caught...it was so cute.
We leave for the honeymoon. Everything was perfect. A real night to
remember which I won't discribe in detail...lol But we had a
wonderful steak dinner in our wedding clothes at the Hilton Steak House and then
we got a room with a big spa, a 4 head stand up shower a heart shaped bed and a
fireplace. It was a wonderful night.
We went to Sheri's the next day and opened out gifts and got to visit with
them a little before going home to the horrendous mess we had left from sewing
and rushing around to get ready. We got home and Janice had cleaned up the
whole place. She didn't want the honeymoon to be ruined by coming home to
that mess. What a sweetheart.
On Monday I learned that one of my co-workers was sick and couldn't come to the
wedding. She and I have had problems off and on at work. She wanted
to make sure that I knew she wanted to come but was sick. So she got out
of bed and drove to the hospital and got someone to let her into the unit to get
my phone number. She tried and tried to call me but when she dialed it
turned out she had my old number and it was now Ruby's Trailer Park....ROFL.
So that is the story of my wedding. I loved the whole thing and probably
left out parts that maybe Sheri can fill in. Oh and I have a box of
little chapel shaped bubbles because everyone didn't see them when they signed
the guest book and so they were all left over....LOL Maybe I'll go
blow bubbles at Tay....LOL
Love Deb
